I so agree with all of these! I really believe we need to get money out of politics. We need to put a cap on how much a person running for a federal office can spend on their campaign. It’s totally disgusting the amount of money spent on national elections. That money could be put to better use. Term limits definitely for Supreme Court Justices. I’m not sure how we can continue to trust these judges when they have become so biased. Increasing their number may help…or nominating them some other way.
Getting corporate (and billionaire) money out of politics will do more to fix our democracy than almost anything else. Thanks for this thought piece. Good stuff.
Interesting and much appreciated. I must take issue with #14. Limiting members of congress to 3 terms (6 years) would destroy any institutional knowledge or the ability to develop leadership. We have term limits - they are called elections. We need to educate ourselves
Emily, I had quite a lot of conversations about term limits with a diverse selection of people before settling on three terms. I, and the people with whom I spoke, considered the matter of institutional memory, and your viewpoint was represented. In the end, the three-terms level seemed to be the sweet spot, six years for reps and 18 for senators. The bottom line from everyone with whom I spoke was that there had to be SOME limit, and it's inevitable that we would not get universal agreement on how many terms are appropriate. Thanks for your comments! -Ron

So a billionaire can’t buy an election like Elon Musk did a cap of 20k should be the limit on campaign contributions I think Australia just did this
Yes X 20. No to expanding SCOTUS. Term limits yes!
